movement

To reduce the chances of any movement in the stretcher frame we only use double kiln dried hard and soft wood. This reduces the moisture content in the wood. This is not to guarantee 100% there will never be any more movement but it dramatically reduces the chances. To help us make the best stretchers we have specialists carefully sourcing the wood we want to maintain our standards. They look for wood which has been grown in good plantations and the way in which it is machined. They also look for wood which has fewer knots in it and a good straight grain.

As soon as the wood comes to our workshop from the timber merchants it is machined and profiled to the depths of stretcher we want. It is then stored in a dry area. For our larger stretchers we hand select the straightest pieces of wood before proceeding.
