Bleed edge for canvas printing - the image is wrapped around the edges of the canvas

A bleed edge or 'gallery wrap' is created when your photos are wrapped around the sides of the canvas.

A bleed edge works best when there is enough space around the subject so that important detail isn't lost around the edge of when printing your photos on canvas.

Importantly, you need to make sure that you allow for the depth of the stretcher bars (either 35mm for 30mm stretchers or 45mm for 40mm stretchers) on all sides of your photo before printing.

White edge for canvas printing - your image appears on the front surface of the canvas with the edges remaining white or a colour of your choice

We print your photos on the front surface of the canvas whilst the edges remain white or a colour of your choice. This can added to suit your image or the space in which your canvas it is to be hung.

This finish is ideal if there is important detail towards the edges of your photos which would be lost around the sides of the canvas if you choose a bleed edge.

Clone edge for canvas printing - the outer portion of the image is copied and pasted to create the wrapped edges of the canvas

This is an excellent way to create a gallery wrap effect without losing the composition of your image.

We copy detail from the sides of your photos and flip it over to add enough extra to allow for the depth of the stretcher bars (either 30mm or 40mm depending on which you choose).

  useful tip

tips for choosing your wrap

Make sure that when you choose a bleed edge that there is no important detail close to the edge of your photo which will be lost around the sides of your canvas. On the example on the left, parts of both eyes are lost as a wrap has been chosen.

If your image is similar to this, we recommend choosing a White Edge or a Clone. If you are unsure, we are happy to advise you as to what will produce the best results in printing on canvas.

extra durability

AT canvas website - specialist printers on canvas

Our heat-sealing service increases the durability of your photos on canvas and gives a more water resistant surface without affecting the vibrancy of your photos. The seal helps to prevent scratching and also enables you to wipe down the surface with a damp cloth. This is ideal if your prints are to be hung in a busy area, kitchen, bathroom or childs bedroom for example.

The heat-seal is available in 2 finishes which are both applied to the canvas after printing, Satin and Gloss.

ready to hang

Your canvas print will arrive ready to hang on your wall with specially designed canvas hangers. For smaller canvases a nail hammered into the wall will be sufficient support. The nail rests on the saw-tooth edge of the hanger so that you print will always hang straight on the wall.

For larger canvases the hangers are designed to fit neatly over a standard picture hook which can be hammered into the wall. In both cases, your canvas will sit flush with your wall to maintain the contemporary appearance.

If you choose one of our larger canvases or hardwood stretcher bars, 2 hangers would be attached to your canvas to spread the weight of the structure when hung on your wall.
